Mr. Kaidanov is renowned as an athlete and fencing coach with more than 55 years of excellence in his sport. By the age of 14, he was already established as an accomplished fencer. Subsequently, he pursued an education at the State College of Physical Education in Kharkov, Ukraine, USSR,, where he earned a Master of Science in physical education in 1962 and a Master of Sports in fencing. Following his graduation, Mr. Kaidanov served honorably in the Armed Forces of the USSR from 1962 to 1964. He immigrated to the United States in 1979.
Since 1982, Mr. Kaidanov has excelled as a fencing master and the head coach of the men's and women's fencing teams at the Pennsylvania State University. He has also found success as a coach for the 1985, 1986, and 1987 United States World Championship fencing teams and the 1985, 1989, 1991, 1993, and 1997 World University Games. Throughout his illustrious career, he has coached student athletes to win 12 NCAA Championship team titles and 28 NCAA individual titles, and is proud to count more than 10 Olympians and the 2013 individual foil World Champion, Miles Chamley-Watson, among his students. A renowned international fencing referee, Mr. Kaidanov has additionally refereed for several World Championships and Olympic Games.
Mr. Kaidanov was notably honored as a Maitre de l'Académie d'Armes of the Académie d'Armes Internationale in 1993. Inducted into the United States Fencing Hall of Fame in 2017, he has been lauded as the author of "Foil, Saber, and Epee Fencing" in 1994. He has further been recognized as the Coach of the Year by the National College Athletic Association and the U.S. Fencing Coaches Association. Likewise, Mr. Kaidanov is an active member of U.S. Fencing and the U.S. Fencing Coaches Association.
