Backed by many years of accrued experience in the oilfield business, Mr. Gatlin has excelled as the owner of LWG Service LLC, since 2007. Likewise, he has found success as the vice president of research and development for Refinery Specialties, also known as RSI Chemicals. Previously, he held a number of positions with Champion Chemicals, Inc., including as a research chemist, the manager of technical services and the manager of research and product development from 1969 to 1978. Beginning his career at Camco, Inc., an off-shore oil well company, from 1965 to 1968, Mr. Gatlin further flourished as a teaching assistant and a research assistant at the Louisiana State University at Alexandria during this time.
An expert in his field, Mr. Gatlin initially pursued an education at Lecompte High School, obtained a diploma in 1963. Completing coursework at the Louisiana Polytechnic Institute and Louisiana State University at Alexandria between 1965 and 1968, he subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of Louisiana Monroe in 1969. Following these accomplishments, Mr. Gatlin concluded his academic efforts with coursework in corrosion control and continuing engineering education at the University of Oklahoma and coursework in hazardous waste management at the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service in 1990.
Additionally active as a consultant in his field, Mr. Gatlin has garnered his certification from the NACE International Institute. A member of the Honor Guard for the Disabled American Veterans, Mr. Gatlin remains affiliated with a number of organizations in order to remain aware of changes in the field, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the AARP of Texas, the American Association of Chemists, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the American Chemical Society and the National Wildlife Federation.
Attributing his success to the time he dedicated toward his profession, Mr. Gatlin stresses the importance of seeking a formal education, having worked diligently in school to support himself, as his family was impoverished. Looking toward the future, he hopes to enter a well-deserved retirement. However, Mr. Gatlin may maintain a part-time connection to the field as a consultant so as to refer those in need toward solutions to achieve great results.
