A civil engineer with more than 30 years of experience with the National Cooperative Refinery Association, Mr. Grauer retired from his position in 2015. Hired in 1985 as an assistant products pipeline and terminal superintendent, he later accepted the position of superintendent, a position he maintained for the duration of his career. The National Cooperative Refinery Association was a farmer-owned cooperative that made fuels for the farms of Mid-America. Prior to his tenure at the cooperative, Mr. Grauer worked for Cities Service Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for four years as a project engineer and staff engineer and in Braintree, Massachusetts as a products terminal engineer for one year and in Shreveport, Louisiana as a pipeline engineer for one year.
In his role as a superintendent, Mr. Grauer completed a project in 1997 which included the construction of a new products terminal in McPherson, Kansas, worth $4 million at the time. He also served as a project engineer in 2003 during the construction of 14 miles of gasoline and pentane pipelines which ran from the refinery in McPherson, Kansas to Conway, Kansas underground storage facility, worth $2.5 million. In 2013, Mr. Grauer served as the project manager during the construction of the 13 miles of crude pipeline in Ellis County, Kansas, a $2 million project.
Also during his career, Mr. Grauer served on several state pipeline associations. He was Vice President of Iowa Pipeline Association from 2006 to 2014 and President in 2015. Mr. Grauer was President of the Kansas Pipeline Association from 2012 to 2013 and President of the Nebraska Pipeline Association from 2008 to 2012. Mr. Grauer also served on the Kansas Commission of Emergency Planning and Response as the Industry Representative for the Governor of Kansas from 2014 to 2019.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Grauer attended Baker University in Kansas until 1976, whereupon he transferred to Kansas State University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering in 1979. Mr. Grauer was licensed as a registered professional engineer in Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma.
Mr. Grauer is a member of several pertinent organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Kansas Society of Professional Engineers, and the National Association of Corrosion Engineers. Likewise, he holds the distinction of being a member of the Chi Epsilon Civil Engineering Honor Society. Mr. Grauer was awarded Engineer of the Year for 2012-2013 by the Kansas Society of Professional Engineers Smoky Valley Chapter.
