Mr. Adams has found much success as a mergers and acquisitions executive with over 55 years of experience in his field. He initially pursued an education at Davidson College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in economics in 1962. He continued his education at East Carolina University, obtaining a Master of Education in 1963. Upon entering banking and finance, he realized that a law degree would be an asset to him in his profession. Subsequently, Mr. Adams graduated from the University of North Carolina Law School with a Doctor of Jurisprudence, with honors, and was admitted to the Oder of the Coif. Mr. Adams was admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 1970.
In 1963, Mr. Adams began his banking career as a management trainee at C & S National Bank of Atlanta. In 1966 he was elected vice president of Northwestern Bank in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. In 1970, Mr. Adams began his law career as an associate with the Adams Kleemeier law firm in Greensboro, North Carolina, and in 1971, joined the firm of McElwee & Hall in North Wilkesboro, N. C. In 1975, Mr. Adams returned to the banking industry and served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Northwestern Bank and Northwestern Financial Corporation in North Wilkesboro.
In 1985, upon the acquisition of Northwestern by First Union Corporation, Mr. Adams was elected Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel of First Union Corporation in Charlotte. For the next five years, during the beginning of interstate banking in the United States, Mr. Adams participated in more than 55 bank acquisitions throughout the Southeast. In 1990, Mr. Adams began a new career as a Managing Director of Chapman Associates, a boutique, mergers and acquisitions firm handing transactions of privately held, middle market companies, Currently in his thirtieth year with Chapman, he has managed the purchase or sale of approximately 100 middle market businesses, specializing in the transportation industry.
