Edward Allard Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Mr. Allard is renowned as an educational administrator and industrial education teacher with more than 40 years of distinction in his field. After graduating from Detroit, Michigan's Cass Technical High School in the mechanical drafting curriculum, he served his country honorably in the Michigan Air National Guard from 1954 to 1962. During that time period he also attended University of Detroit studying mechanical engineering. Finding the social aspects of teaching to be more rewarding, he pursued an education at Wayne State University earning a Bachelor of Science in industrial education in 1962, and a Master of Science in industrial education in 1968. Moreover, Mr. Allard is licensed as a secondary and vocational teacher in the state of Michigan.

Mr. Allard began his career as a detailer-layout designer for various automotive industry related engineering companies in Dearborn, Detroit, and Ferndale, Michigan, from 1958 to 1962. In 1962, he accepted a position as a teacher in the Melvindale-North Allen Park Public Schools before working in the same role for the Dearborn Public Schools from 1965 to 1967. Mr. Allard subsequently found success with the Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn, excelling as an industrial education instructor from 1967 to 1969, a training supervisor from 1969 to 1973 and director of trade and apprentice education specializing in related instruction for manufacturing and plant maintenance skilled trades from 1973 until his retirement in 2000.

Although he is proud of the work he was able to conduct with students, industrial leaders and UAW union officials throughout his career, Mr. Allard's career highlight was receiving a commendation for more than 35 years of outstanding leadership and dedicated service from the staff and faculty of Henry Ford Community College upon his retirement. He had also received a certificate of meritorious service from the United States Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship Training, Employer and Labor Services Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training for outstanding service to the National Apprenticeship Program in 2000.

He has further flourished in a variety of positions with the Michigan Educators Apprenticeship and Training Association and as treasurer of the Michigan Apprenticeship Steering Committee, Inc. from the inception in 1980 until his retirement in 2000. He was formerly active as a member of the Dearborn Sunrise Rotary Club Chapter of Rotary International, where he held the post of a chapter secretary and was awarded Rotarian of the Year in 1991. As a member of the Grosse Iie Power Squadron, District 9 of the United States Power Squadron he taught safe boating courses and was Commander in 2001. Mr. Allard remains passionate about folk and acoustic music and plays guitar in his free time.
