Born in Lodz, Poland, Dr. Dmowski immigrated to the United States in 1964 and became a citizen in 1988. Dr. Dmowski is an Obstetrician/Gynecologist with a sub-specialty in Reproductive Endocrinology. Dr. Dmowski has a strong medical research background and more than 55 years of distinguished experience in his field. Dr. Dmowski attended the Warsaw Medical Academy, earning a Doctor of Medicine in 1962, and completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Endocrinology at the Medical College of Georgia, School of Graduate Studies in 1971. He served as a resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Ottawa Hospital General from 1962 until 1964, and at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, between 1964 and 1967. From 1967 to 1969, he was a Population Council Research Fellow and between 1969-1971 a Graduate Student in Gynecologic Endocrinology both at the Medical College of Georgia, under the mentorship of the pioneers in Reproductive Endocrinology, Dr. Robert B. Greenblatt and Dr. Virendra Mahesh.
Dr. Dmowski began his academic career in 1971, as an assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, and further rising to the position of an associate professor between 1974 and 1979. From 1979 until 1981, Dr. Dmowski served as a professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Since 1981, Dr. Dmowski has been a professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Rush Medical College in Chicago. He developed and for many years directed divisions of Reproductive Endocrinology/Infertility at Chicago's Michael Reese Hospital, University of Arkansas, and at Rush Medical College in Chicago. Dr. Dmowski also established and for years lead one of the first hospital-based In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) programs and one of the first office-based IVF programs in the Midwest. He is double board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (1973) and in Reproductive Endocrinology (1974).
Among his many research contributions to the field, Dr. Dmowski has been a principal investigator and a consultant to Sterling-Winthrop during the development and trials of the steroid compound Danazol, the Illinois Institute of Technology Research Institute on the development of a steerable hysteroscope, and Organon International, Inc. on the development of estradiol intrauterine devices. Since 1990, he has been a partner and director at the Reproductive Medicine Institute of Oak Brook, where he is also a co-founder.
Dr. Dmowski has contributed more than 300 articles to professional journals and more than 40 Textbooks and Textbook Chapters. He is the recipient of numerous awards for his teaching and research, including several for his work on the development of danazol and trials on its use in treating endometriosis. Dr. Dmowski is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, and the American Medical Association.
