Having earned a bachelor's degree from the Stockholm School of Economics and Business Administration in 1975, Ms. Ahrnell began her career in 1976 as an analyst for an antitrust ombudsman in Stockholm. She joined IBM Sweden in 1977 where she stayed for 17 years in different positions such as Manager of Product Demand for IBM Europe (based in Paris), Head of Bus Dev & Strategies, Head of Small Business and Head of Marketing. At IBM Sweden she was the first female director and the first woman on the executive team.
Ms. Ahrnell continued her career as the Director of Sales & Marketing at Cambridge Technology Partners of Scandinavia from 1994 until 1996. Between 1996 and 1999, she found success as the Director of Business Development for Lowe Brindfors. Then departing to become the Chief Executive Officer of Bonnier Net year 2000 to 2001. She then founded a small design business which she managed from 2001 to 2004 until she was employed by Swedbank in 2005 where she stayed until 2014 in various executive positions such as Head of Marketing & Online Sales and Head of Digital Development. During her career at Swedbank she launched the first mobile bank in Sweden and she was also one of the drivers behind the launch of Swish, a joint bank solution for mobile P2P payments.
In January 2015 she was appointed Chief Digital & Data Officer and she also temporarily took on the Chief Technology Officer role during 2015-2016 at Bonnier AB, a private owned media group in TV, daily newspapers, business and trade press, magazines, film, books, radio and digital media. With the mission to help strengthen the digital transition and product development from a Bonnier-wide perspective.
Today Ms. Ahrnell works as a Non-Executive Director with board member roles at Lexly, a leading legal tech firm, Bonnier Publications, a magazine business and Smarta Samtal a non-profit organization promoting pubic dialogue around societal challenges. Earlier in her career she has also served as board member at Avanza and If.
