Joining the Sisters of The Third Franciscan Order, Syracuse, NY, in 1961, Sister Souza is a devoted religious educator who has amassed 55 years of practiced experience in her field. A former youth minister of the Catholic Diocese of Syracuse, New York, from 1963 to 1971, she served in the same capacity for Saint Peter's Parish in Riverside, New Jersey, for the following two years. She subsequently relocated to Honolulu, where she excelled as a teacher at the Saint Francis School from 1973 to 1984 before returning to New York to become a youth minister of the IHM Parish in Liverpool. Remaining in that role for seven years, Sister Souza revisited Honolulu to become a junior and senior high school principal at the Saint Francis School until her retirement in 2018.
To prepare for her career, Sister Souza pursued formal education at Maria Regina College in Syracuse, where she earned an Associate of Arts in 1967. From there, she received a Bachelor of Arts in theology from Saint Joseph's College in 1970 and a Master of Arts in administration of religious education at La Salle College in 1976. Equally passionate about her community, she was a member of the Pro-Life Committee of Honolulu from 1980 to 1984, as well as a member of the AIDS Buddy Program of Central New York between 1987 and 1991. Notably, Sister Souza founded the Saint Francis School's Kauai campus in 1997.
As a testament to her success, Sister Souza was recognized by the alumni association of Saint Francis High School for her contributions and dedication to the school. A celebrated Marquis listee, she was selected for inclusion in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women. Adjacent to her career responsibilities, Sister Souza enjoys such avocations as gardening, sewing, reading, and taking walks.
