A celebrated physician and educator, Dr. Minor retired from private practice in 2008 after 35 years as a board-certified pediatrician, allergist and immunologist. Based in Eugene, he specialized in diagnosing, treating and managing asthma and allergies in patients caused by foods, environmental factors, drugs and topical substances. Splitting his time between the office and the classroom, Dr. Minor was also a successful clinical assistant professor of medicine in the division of immunology, allergy and rheumatology at the Oregon Health and Science University Hospital in Portland for 30 years between 1979 and 2009. Additionally, he provided his expertise as the medical director of a camp for asthmatic children as part of the Oregon Lung Association between 1975 and 1990.
Among his professional endeavors, Dr. Minor most notably helped organize Camp Christmas Seal for asthmatic children in a joint venture with the University of Oregon and the Oregon Lung Association. He also served as a medical adviser to Lane Community College. Throughout Dr. Minor's career, however, it was the relationships he made with his students and the dedication he had for his patients that left the biggest impact on his life.
As a physician, Dr. Minor contributed much of his time researching and documenting his findings. A study that he was particularly proud of was authored in 1965, titled "Antagonism of Experimentally Induced Bronco-Constriction by Chronically Impressed Electric Current." Published through the American Physiology Society and presented at the 17th meeting at the University of California Los Angeles, it was a very significant achievement for him personally.
Dr. Minor attended the University of Florida between 1960 and 1963, where he focused on pursuing pre-med courses. He later achieved a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Tennessee in 1966. Additional educational pursuits to his credit included an internship and residency in pediatrics in the college of medicine at the University of Florida where he also excelled as the chief resident. Dr. Minor notably maintained activity as a major in the U.S. Air Force between 1970 and 1972, where he was chief of pediatrics at Homestead Air Force Base in Miami, FL. He was a fellow in allergy and immunology at the University of California San Francisco from 1972 to 1974. He is board certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology and the American Board of Pediatrics.
An elected fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Allergy and Immunology, Dr. Minor has also been aligned with several other industry-related organizations. He is a member and past president of the Lane County Medical Society, the Lane Individual Practice Association and the Oregon Society of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. He is also affiliated with several honor societies, including Alpha Omega Alpha and Alpha Epsilon Delta. In addition to being recognized with a Humanitarian Award from the Oregon Lung Association in 1990, Dr. Minor was honored for his service between 1973 and 1990 to Camp Christmas Seal. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been cited in the 20th edition of Who's Who in the West.
