Moreover, she was the marketing director and the business manager for Southern Ohio Oral & Facial SurgiCenters, the director of public relations and development for Adena Medical Center, the director of communications for Price Waterhouse Coopers, the president and creative director for Pace Communications, and the editorial director for Red Bud Publications. Additionally, Ms. Patterson has excelled in the posts as editor and director of public relations for the National Eye Research Foundation, editor and research assistant for the US Savings and Loan League, associate editor for the National Safety Council, and speech writer for Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
Prior to embarking upon her professional career, Ms. Patterson pursued her initial studies at Marquette University where she received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in communications. She completed further coursework at Spalding University and obtained a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in creative nonfiction writing. And she continued her education at Liberty University where she graduated with an Education Specialist degree (EdS) and a Master of Communications (MA).
Widely published, Ms. Patterson is the author of such works as Eating Your Way Across Ohio: 101 Must Places to Eat, The Recipes of the 101 Must Places to Eat in Ohio, Herbs for All Seasons and a memoir Allies Forever: The Life and Times of an American Prisoner of War. She was a syndicated columnist for the Gannett and Thompson newspapers and as a contributing author her articles have appeared in New Southerner Magazine, Touchstone Literary Journal, Glass Enclosures Literary Journal, Ohio University AWP Anthology, Ohio Magazine, and The Ohio Travel Guide, as well as other publications.
Additionally, she has been the recipient of the National Publisher's Freedom Award, Touchstone Literary Journal Nonfiction Award, Great Lakes Regional Communicators Award, Apex Award for Publication Excellence, Winning Writers Award, and Writer's Digest Award, among other accolades. Aside from her immediate professional responsibilities, Ms. Patterson is also an active member of many professional organizations including The Authors Guild, the Modern Language Association of America, the Association of Writers & Writing Programs, the
Association of Educational Communication and Technology, and the Holocaust Educators Network.
