Dr. Golian-Lui, having served as an associate dean for the library system at Kennesaw State University's Library System since 2012, celebrates close to 40 years in the field of library science and higher education. A library technology assistant while attending college at the University of Miami from 1981 until 1986, she later worked in various other roles at the university's law school and Florida Atlantic University. In 1997, Dr. Golian-Lui became a librarian and adjunct instructor in the college of arts and sciences at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers and in 2002 joined the staff of the University of Hawaii at Hilo as the library director.
Outside of her full-time commitments, Dr. Golian-Lui contributed for nearly a decade with several other organizations in a number of roles. Originally an adjunct instructor at Florida Atlantic University in the college of continuing and distance education from 1993 to 1997, she later served in the same capacity for the University of Southern Florida in the college of library science. She was also a program specialist at the Marriott Statford Center Senior Living Community in Boca Raton, Florida. Within her community, Dr. Golian-Lui volunteered her time as a storyteller on behalf of the Aid to Victims of Domestic Assault in Delray Beach, Florida, between 1994 and 1996.
Highly educated, Dr. Golian-Lui received a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Miami in 1986 and a Master of Library Information Science at Florida State University in 1988. She then acquired both a Specialist in Education degree in 1995 and Doctor of Education in 1998 at Florida Atlantic University. Additionally, Dr. Golian-Lui undertook postgraduate coursework at Florida Gulf Coast University and received a graduate certificate in ethical leadership and organizational leadership at Kennesaw State University.
Aligned with multiple professional organizations, Dr. Golian-Lui was active on several committees and was the president and chairperson of the library school outreach for the Library Administration and Management Association (LAMA). In 1995, she received a 3M professional development grant from the association. Among other memberships, Dr. Golian-Lui has been involved with the American Library Association, the Hawaii Library Association, the Special Library Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Georgia Library Association, and the America Association for Higher Education.
Honored with a Georgia Library Association Nix-Jones Award for Substantial Contributions to the Library Profession, Dr. Golian-Lui was also named Hawaii County Woman of the Year for 2005 and was the recipient of a Mover and Shaker Award from the Library Journal in 2005. A celebrated Marquis listee, she has been showcased in over 35 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's in American Education and Who's Who of American Women. Adjacent to her career responsibilities, Dr. Golian-Lui enjoys such diversions as reading, fishing, ceramics, and knitting.
