As co-editor of the Oxford University Press "Greek Tragedy in New Translations," he brought the series to completion and published the collected plays in nine volumes between 2009 and 2011. Among the plays that appeared in that series, he was also translator (with Alan Shapiro) of Aeschylus' Oresteia and Euripides' Phoenician Women (with Brian Swann). He provided introductions and notes those plays as well for three other plays in the series. His translation of Aeschylus' Suppliants appeared in 1991. His translations from Italian include works of Poliziano and Foscolo. Dr. Burian has also contributed numerous chapters to edited volumes and articles to professional journals in his areas of expertise. His current projects include an adaptation of Aristophanes' Birds, the editing (with Jacques Bromberg) of a multi-author Companion to Aeschylus and a large-scale study of the complex relationship between the Athenian theater and Athens' democratic regime during the fifth century BCE.
