Ms. Turkus-Workman is a retired elementary school educator of 40 years. Employed with the Centralia School District in Buena Park, CA, between 1970 and 2010, she also lent her expertise as one of the district's educational technologists for 23 of those years. She continues to serve as a substitute teacher, where she can still mentor and teach, but without having the full-time responsibility that comes alongside being an educator.
Earning a Bachelor of Arts in history from California State University, followed by a Master of Science in administration management at the University of La Verne, Ms. Turkus-Workman is certified in cross-cultural language and academy development, holds an administrative credential, and holds a special certification in classroom management. A former consultant for the University School-Space Science Academy in Cleveland, OH, she maintains membership with the American Association of University Women, the Computer Using Educators, the Order of Arrow and Kappa Delta Pi, and she is a lifetime member of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Locally, she has been involved as a former unit commissioner with the Boy Scouts of America and as a former systems officer for the Starfleet Bulletin Board System in Long Beach, CA.
Honored with a Gold Leaf Award by the PTA National and Woodbadge Beads by the Boy Scouts of America in 1991, Ms. Turkus-Workman has been cited in nearly 20 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women. The proud mother of two sons, she enjoys spending her retirement by sailing, camping, reading, writing, playing the piano, painting and creating glass fusion artwork.
