MEMPHIS, TN, February 10, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Corbin Ira Carpenter, Esquire has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility and prominence in a field are all considered during the selection process.
Attorney Carpenter is the current Managing Member of Carpenter Law, PLLC (formerly Charles E. Carpenter, A Professional Corporation), where the Firm has a regional-based practice and has been headquartered in the heart of downtown Memphis in the historic Tri-State Bank building on Beale Street since 1992. The primary practice focus of the Firm are in the areas of corporate, transactional and municipal finance law where the Firm, as Bond Counsel and/or Counsel to the Underwriters', facilitates the issuance of various debt securities such as general obligation bonds, revenue bonds and tax-increment financing bonds that finance a variety of public infrastructure projects with airports, utilities, affordable housing, sports arenas/stadiums, transportation and other economic development financings for governmental municipalities and quasi-governmental entities.
Attorney Carpenter attributes his early success to many things, namely his mentality, relentless work-ethic and of being a proud legacy to his father and law partner, Charles Edward Carpenter, Sr. (who founded the Firm in 1978) and his mother, Mary Alice Bobo-Carpenter (who also is an entrepreneur, as a Psychotherapist, founding Healthy Connections Consulting in 1993) both of whom serve as his most cherished mentors and inspiration. Attorney Carpenter was taught early in life that entrepreneurship is more than a job, it's a lifestyle that requires an assortment of qualities such as vision, grit, humility, discipline, service, benevolence, resilience, perseverance and resourcefulness. The legacy of being an entrepreneur has laid the initial foundation for Attorney Carpenter's core values, principals, identity and purpose. To Attorney Carpenter, the word legacy carries a much deeper meaning, to him legacy means Lead Each Generation And Commit Yourself (L.E.G.A.C.Y.) through adopting a mentality premised on systemic growth and advancement through entrepreneurship and community investment.
Professionally, Attorney Carpenter utilizes his L.E.G.A.C.Y. mentality with entrepreneurship through both creating perpetual value for his Firm and providing proven strategies to governments and quasi-governmental entities through exploring innovative ways to finance their infrastructure and housing needs, which subsequently has a positive tangible impact on the community infrastructure for its current and future residents. One of the more rewarding parts of Attorney Carpenter's work is with affordable housing where blighted properties and substandard living conditions are prevalent in Memphis. Through his Firm's work, they facilitate various financings for new construction or to fully rehabilitate dilapidated properties with new amenities and greater tenant benefits for its residents. To date, Attorney Carpenter's most memorable bond financing was the historic Concourse B modernization to the Memphis International Airport where his Firm served as Sole Counsel to the Underwriters' for a syndicate of national municipal brokers-dealers in 2018. Eminently qualified in his field, Attorney Carpenter also works on drafting and reviewing various contracts and agreements for corporations, professional entities and small businesses, consults on corporate compliance/non-profit governance and advises on sports/entertainment law matters.
Civically, Attorney Carpenter utilizes his L.E.G.A.C.Y. mentality with community investment through his volunteering endeavors and serving on various non-profit boards. Most notably, since 2015, he has served as Board Chairman for STS Enterprise Corporation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to cultivating wiser, more disciplined and productive youth and collegiate students in Memphis. STS focuses on their students' overall pedagogical and practical enrichment through strengthening their "essential skills" with collaboration, critical-thinking, emotional intelligence, work-ethic, confidence, communication, creativity, financial literacy and time-management.
Adjacent to his professional and civic endeavors, Attorney Carpenter has had numerous speaking engagements with young adults, collegiate students and professionals where he continually stresses adopting the right mentality through understanding the importance of leadership and building legacies, educating yourself and following your innate passions, becoming financially competent, exploring entrepreneurship and more. Attorney Carpenter believes it is so vital to encourage individuals to explore the intricacies of entrepreneurship, as doing so will afford individuals the opportunity to acquire ownership, accumulate generational wealth and ultimately control their own destiny.
Attorney Carpenter believes that the highest human act is to inspire. He says "by comprehensively adopting a L.E.G.A.C.Y. mentality and culture into ourselves and our communities we can achieve growth, longevity and ultimately strengthen our community infrastructure." Attorney Carpenter continues, "while our predecessors left us the world we live in, it is our responsibility to leave our successors a more equitable, inclusive and progressive world."
Attorney Carpenter, a proud alumnus of the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law earned his Juris Doctor in 2016 and is licensed to practice law in the State of Tennessee and the District of Columbia. He also earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Business Administration at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville in 2012.
Attorney Carpenter has garnered a laudable reputation and earned several awards and honors throughout his early career, most notably when he was a finalist of the Memphis Business Journal's Best of the Bar in 2019; an honoree of the Memphis Business Journal's 40 Under 40 in 2018; an honoree of The Memphis Flyer's Top 20 Under 30 in 2018; and an honoree of the Top 40 Under 40 Urban Elite Professionals in 2016.
