PLEASANTON, KS, February 12, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Ola May Earnest with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Earnest celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Having accrued over 45 years of experience in her field as a historian and genealogist, Ms. Earnest has earned distinction as the president and curator of the Linn County Museum and Genealogy Library since 1980. In this capacity, she has worked diligently to establish one of the most comprehensive and extensive collections of memorabilia documenting history of Pleasanton, a small town in the Kansas City metropolitan area comprised of just over 1,200 residents. Additionally, Ms. Earnest served as the vice president and president of the Linn County Genealogical Society between 1975 and 1979.
Responsible for establishing the genealogy library within the museum, Ms. Earnest has compiled many records throughout the course of her career, including census records from 1860 until the present day. She has cataloged every cemetery in the county, which she later adapted for a book in 1987, titled "100 Cemeteries and Burial Sites in Linn County, Kansas." Furthermore, Mrs. Ola has led volunteer efforts, conducted tours throughout the county of local historical sites and, on occasion, furnished information to local students and colleges when requested. Meanwhile, the museum boasts a rich array of memorabilia hailing from the town's founding families, including authentic attire from such organizations as The Independent Order of Odd Fellows, as well as a bank front, toys, cars and other memorabilia, and patron-activated informational readings from the days of the Civil War.
Ms. Earnest studied genealogy at Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, Kansas, and Pittsburgh State University in Pittsburgh, Kansas. Aligned with several professional organizations, she is a member of the Kansas State Historical Society, the Territorial Kansas Heritage Alliance, the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the National Society of Washington Family Descendants. In recognition of her achievements, Ms. Earnest was named as Woman of the Year by Iota Phi Sorority in 1985. She later received a Community Service Award from Phi Beta Pi Sorority in 1989 and a Commitment to History Award from the State of Kansas in 2005.
