Ms. Angella Marie Goetz is the recipient of the 1994 Carole DeMille Achievement Award, the highest honor in infection control, for her research contributions to the field.

Ms. Goetz has accrued more than 39 years of inimitable experience in her field as an infection control consultant. She took an early interest in nursing after having been a patient, as a child, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She earned a diploma in nursing from Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing in 1956, and continued her education at the University of Pittsburgh, where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1975, as well as a Master of Nursing Education in 1977. Ms. Goetz is a licensed registered nurse and is board-certified in infection control and epidemiology.
From 1956 until 1959, Ms. Goetz excelled as a staff nurse at Allegheny General Hospital and Multnomah County Hospital, Portland, Oregon, rising to become the head nurse at Allegheny General between 1959 and 1964, and a team leader from 1967 to 1972. In 1977, she became a medical-surgical nursing instructor at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing. She became an infection control nurse at Western Pennsylvania Hospital between 1978 and 1981, whereupon she joined the Veterans Administration Hospital of Pittsburgh as an infection control nurse. In 1991, Ms. Goetz also distinguished herself by developing an IV team at the VA Medical Center of Pittsburgh, where she would remain until her retirement in 1997.
Ms. Goetz garnered additional expertise as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh from 1991 to 1999, and a member of the Certification Board of Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology from 1996 until 2002. She is the recipient of the 1994 Carole DeMille Achievement Award, the highest honor in infection control, for her research contributions to the field. Ms. Goetz is a former member of the editorial board of the American Journal of Infection Control and the Journal of Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology, and has contributed numerous articles to professional publications. She is a member of the American Nurses Association and the Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of America and the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology.
