William Edwards was named the Most Influential Mayor by Women's Work Media Group.
ATLANTA, GA, February 17, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- William Edwards has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Notably named the Most Influential Mayor by Women's Work Media Group, Mr. Edwards is serving as the first mayor of the city of South Fulton, Georgia. Elected with a 60 percent majority of the vote, he was officially sworn into his position on April 29, 2017, and began his tenure by hiring an Interim City Manager, City Clerk and Interim County Attorney. Backed by a Bachelor of Science from Morehouse College from 1972 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Atlanta School of Law in 1980, Mr. Edwards was also named as the Man of the Year by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
Between 2000 and 2014, Mr. Edwards tirelessly served the citizens of South Fulton as District Seven Commissioner, representing the residents of Chattahoochee Hills, College Park, East Point, Fairburn, Hapeville, Palmetto, a portion of Southwest Atlanta, Southwest Fulton, unincorporated South Fulton and Union City. During his term, he also served as vice chair of the Board of Commissioners for the years 2003, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Mayor Edwards has always been an advocate for children. As such he sponsored such programs as, Youth Leadership Academy for Girls, Youth Leadership Academy for Boys, Teen Dad's, and Priceless University. Recognizing also, that the best community is an informed community, he started Citizens University and Parent University. Additionally, he distinguished himself as a community advocate by serving as president of the Old National Merchants Association for more than ten years. Mr. Edwards is a member of Cascade United Methodist Church and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
Mr. Edwards attributes his success to the skills and the lessons he has learned from his parents, especially his mother and his high school teachers. He works and lives by his motto, as quoted by Dr. Benjamin E. Mays, "Whatever you do, strive to do it so well that no man living and no man dead and no man yet to be born could do it any better." Looking towards the future, Mr. Edwards aspires to eventually leave government service and spend additional time with his family.
