BEEVILLE, TX, February 18, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Jayne Duryea with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Duryea celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Born in New York, Ms. Duryea relocated to Texas almost 40 years ago, where she has become a well-known artist and educator. Joining the Bee County College faculty in 1981, as a teacher of architecture and drafting, she subsequently became a full professor of art and the chairman of the visual arts division in 1988, a capacity in which she maintains activity. In 1989, she notably established the first glass blowing facilities on the college campus. A talented artist, Ms. Duryea is renowned for her work in glassblowing, which has been described as three-dimensional expressions which are both vivid and fluid, possessed of a deep connection to nature. She is also a gifted painter of both oil and watercolor. In 1996 and 1997, Ms. Duryea had the good fortune to blow glass at the A.R.S. Murano glass factories in Venice, Italy, with the help of her dear friend and mentor, Robert Wilson.
Ms. Duryea's artwork can be found in private and permanent collections throughout the U.S., Canada, the Cayman Islands and France at such locations as the Rockwell Foundation and Coca-Cola of San Antonio. She has also been represented in exhibitions across Texas, including at the San Angelo Museum and the Art Museum of Southern Texas, as well as in New York City at the Ariel Gallery. As the owner of her own studio, Jayne Duryea Studios, in Beeville, Ms. Duryea has often lectured on glass and art since 1981 and has hosted glassblowing demonstrations and workshops since 1989.
After several years of study at Palm Beach Junior College in Florida and Suffolk County Community College in New York, Ms. Duryea acquired a Bachelor of Fine Art in architecture and painting at East Carolina University in 1977. She later earned a Master of Science in painting and drawing at Agricultural and Industrial University in 1988. Since embarking upon her career, Ms. Duryea has maintained her membership with numerous civic organizations. Among her roles, she has served on the Bee County Board of Adjustments in Beeville and was a sponsor for the Bee County College of Arts Association and the Beeville Art Association.
A charter member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Ms. Duryea is also a member of the board of directors of the American Association of University Women and Business and Professional Women. Other professional memberships to her credit include the Art Museum of South Texas, the Texas Association of Schools of Art and the Texas Junior College Teachers Association. Securing numerous grants from the Dougherty Foundation and the Barnhart Foundation over the past 30 years, Ms. Duryea has since received several awards and honors for her work. Nominated for Texas Artist of the Year for 2008-2009 and 2009-2010, she was also named a Wildflower Artist of the Year by the National Wildflower Research Center and, among other recognitions, was named Teacher of the Year in 1994. A celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Duryea has been included in several editions of Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who of American Women.
The Duryea Museum launched its museum website in January 2020 for Phase I of the ongoing process of development. Duryea Museum is a private museum of art showcasing a 1852 renovated Spanish Mediterranean style home with a spacious studio and beautiful gallery on grounds landscaped for the South Texas area since 1996. A specialized private single-artist museum, continues the historical tradition of European artist studios, where the evolution of a lifetime career of one artist is paramount, offering a place for quiet contemplation and study. This was the inspiration for establishing the Duryea Studios in 1996; home, studio and grounds offering the possibility to witness the evolution of the creative process of a single artist during a lifetime. Inspired and influenced by "Nana" with love.
