The company is located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. One of his lead compounds, BIO-11006 is in clinical trials in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and ARDS.
Among other leading roles, as a serial entrepreneur, he was the founder and vice president of R&D of Research Triangle Pharmaceuticals, Ltd. and its Canadian subsidiary, RTP Pharma Inc., a nanotechnology-based drug delivery company. Prior to his industrial position, Dr. Parikh worked in academia as an assistant professor of pharmacology and assistant professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine at Baltimore, Maryland.
Renowned for his work, Dr. Parikh was the first to discover, during early '70s, a high potency peptide-based drug which inhibited conversion of angiotensinogen to angiotensin I by the enzyme renin. This work led others to ACE inhibitors which, inhibited conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II. Followed by this, he discovered and patented a compound which, effectively inhibited diarrhea caused by cholera infection in animal model. During late '70s, he patented a monoclonal antibody based homogeneous assay for estrogen receptor (ER) useful for breast cancer diagnostic purpose. More recently, he discovered a peptide drug called BIO-11006, which is undergoing clinical trials for COPD, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
