During this time, he worked as the president of Ralph Nelson and Associates, Inc. from 1978 to 1987. Prior to these appointments, he served as the vice president and a supervisor of the planning division for Dan Zoller Engineering Inc. between 1976 and 1978. Dr. Nelson began his career as the chief of the planning department for Roberts and Zoller Inc. from 1971 until 1976.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Nelson pursued an education at McPherson College, earning a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts in 1971. He continued his academic efforts at the University of Sarasota, from which he obtained a Master of Business Administration in 1980, a Master of Financial Management in 1981 and a Master of Human Services in 1983. He concluded his studies at Columbia Pacific University in 1984, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy. In addition to these accomplishments, Dr. Nelson has been a Registered Landscape Architect in the State of Florida since 1980.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Nelson has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. A connection group leader for his local Baptist church, he contributed to the Florida Planning and Zoning Association Suncoast chapter as the President and a member of the board of directors. Moreover, Dr. Nelson has found success as a member of various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise, such as the American Society of Landscape Architects, the NGC, PCGS and CAC.
Initially garnering a wealth of knowledge on land planning, re-zoning, special exception permits and navigable activity permits, Dr. Nelson discovered his talent for investments while furthering his education in graduate school. His designation to practice as a Registered Landscape Architect was significant. He was influenced by such mentors as Ralph C. Hall, a noted Professional Engineer and Architect, and Vernon Nelson, his father. In light of his undertakings, Dr. Nelson was selected for inclusion in the first edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America, the eighth edition of Who's Who in the World and multiple editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the South and Southwest.
