Renowned as a skilled litigator and compassionate member in the field of law, Mr. Rumer draws upon a varied educational and occupational background, having worked for five years in a youth treatment center before deciding to go into the practice of law. Initially interested in pursuing a career as a family therapist, Mr. Rumer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a second Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology with a concentration in Criminal Justice from Clemson University in 1997. Subsequently, Mr. Rumer graduated from Regent University with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 2000. Mr. Rumer was presented with the Counselor at Law Award upon graduation from law school presented by the faculty to one student for trial advocacy with a third-year practice certification.
Mr. Rumer was initially inspired to pursue a law degree after a friend was wrongfully stopped and frisked based solely upon racial profiling. The officers used profanity and racial epithets throughout the incident; which traumatized his friend. After discovering that this was commonplace, Mr. Rumer insisted that his friend pursue a claim against the Sheriff's Department. However, none of the local attorneys would take her case. That led Mr. Rumer to seek out a civil rights attorney for his friend. While not easy, the vindication and justice he saw that the legal system provide, persuaded Mr. Rumer to apply to law schools. In law school, Mr. Rumer interned at a state prosecutor's office, with a criminal defense attorney, and completed an externship with the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. After law school, Mr. Rumer has been active in several legal areas but always focused on litigation. Ultimately, Mr. Rumer was offered a position by a prominent firm specializing in family law where he has excelled. He was is currently a partner in the large family law group of Joseph, Greenwald & Laake one of the largest law firms in suburban Washington, D.C., where he has been since 2011.
Priding himself on his fearless willingness to take on difficult cases, Mr. Rumer attributes his success to the various mentors who have passed on ideal trial skills and other relevant knowledge. He is also inspired in his work by Psalm 68:5, which states, "Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation."
