Dr. Sawardeker, the son of Sazro K. Sawardeker and Nirabai Sawardeker, was born in Goa, India. Dr Sawardeker is a renowned Pharmaceutical "Management and Technology" Expert with more than 50 years of excellence in the field.
He initially pursued an education at the prestigious Wilson College in Mumbai, India, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry in 1957. Dr Sawardeker was always interested in pharmaceutical studies. With the encouragement, endless support and inspiration from his parents he decided to shift academic focus towards studies in pharmaceutical sciences and succeeded in securing admission to the University of Iowa in 1959 and was successful in earning a MS degree in 1961 and a Ph.D degree in 1964. At the university he was inducted into the Rho Chi and Sigma Xi Pharmaceutical Honor Societies, and in 1962 he was selected as one of 100 students out of a population of 30,000 to be declared as "a student most likely to succeed."
Dr. Sawardeker did his thesis in a novel technique "Gas Chromatography" and has published several research papers in the Journal of Analytical Chemistry.
He has now retired as Corporate Vice President and Director of Group Quality Worldwide, Glaxo Holdings and was stationed in Glaxo Headquarters in London in 1991.
Prior to that he was Vice President and Technical Director for Latin America and Far East and a Member of Glaxo International Board, RTP, North Carolina (1988-1991); Vice President of Manufacturing and Member of Glaxo Inc. Operating Committee, RTP, North Carolina (1987-1988); Vice President of Quality and a Member of Glaxo Inc. Operating Committee, RTP, North Carolina (1982-1987); Director of Quality, American Home Products in New York (1977-1981); Group Manager of Quality at Ortho Pharmaceuticals, a division of Johnson and Johnson (1967-1977).
He excelled in every assignment and his promotion to Director of Glaxo Group gave him a challenging opportunity to further enhance excellence in product design, excellence in product manufacture, and excellence throughout product shelf life. He earned respect of the MCA in London and the FDA in the United States.
Dr. and Mrs. Sawardeker are proud parents and their children are accomplished professionals. Their eldest daughter Shubhra has an MBA degree from London and is a marketing executive in the pharmaceutical industry. Their second daughter Priscilla has an MBA from Miami University and is married to Dr. Sarvesh Kulkarni Ph.D., a professor at Villanova. Their youngest son Prasad is an orthopedic surgeon with specialty in hands, elbows and shoulders and is the Chairman of the Orthopedic Department at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND.
