Beginning her career in North Canton, Ohio, she subsequently taught at Sandusky Public School in Sandusky, Ohio, and for Howard County Schools in Columbia, Maryland. Moreover, Ms. Szawan has been a member of the Columbia Orchestra since 1990.
In addition to playing first violin, Ms. Szawan has excelled as the chairperson for the Columbia Orchestra's Young Artist Competition and is the coordinator for the Orchestra's educational outreach programs. She also serves as the Orchestra's string personnel manager. Ms. Szawan formerly played for the Akron and Canton Symphonies in Ohio.
Born in Ohio, Ms. Szawan privately studied violin throughout in her youth. Encouraged by her teachers to pursue music in college, she received a scholarship, attended college locally and acquired a Bachelor of Arts in music education at The Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music in Berea, Ohio. Ms. Szawan later attended Kent State University, from which she completed a Master of Education.
Ms. Szawan is a member of the American String Teachers Association and the National Association for Music Education. Renowned for her talents, she received superior ratings with her orchestras. She also won a First Place Award in 2012. A celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Szawan has been included in the 25th edition of Who's Who of American Women.
