Dr. Grove is renowned as a retired professor of nursing with more than 40 years of service to her profession. She was interested in a career in nursing at an early age, and later developed a passion for nursing education. In education, she could help nursing students advance their education while remaining in the local community. Despite her retirement from full-time professional endeavors, Dr. Grove remains active as an adjunct professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing and as creator and facilitator of the Heart Pacing Group.
Dr. Grove initially pursued an education at the Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center School of Nursing, earning a diploma in 1963. She continued her education at the University of Pittsburgh, from which she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1968, a Master of Education in 1972 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1988. Dr. Grove also earned a Master of Science in Nursing from Duquesne University in 1980.
From 1963 to 1966, Dr. Grove began her career as a staff nurse at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital in Johnstown. She later served the aforementioned hospital as a head nurse in 1967 and a nursing care supervisor from 1968 to 1971 before transitioning to an educational role as an instructor and a course director for Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital's School of Nursing from 1971 to 1979. From 1979 to 1991, she found further success as the director of the school of nursing at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital. Moreover, Dr. Grove excelled as director and an associate professor in the RN-BSN program at the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown from 1990 until her retirement in 2007.
Dr. Grove is a contributor to Nursing Journals and is an article reviewer for the American Journal of Nursing and Sigma Theta Tau International. She has also participated on the board of the American Cancer Society. Currently she serves on the Board for the Allegheny United Cerebral Palsy and the Board for the Arbutus Retirement Community. In 2011, she founded the Heart Pacing Group (an educational and fun group for community member with heart issues). She continues to serve as the facilitator of the group.
Among other honors, Dr. Grove has been the recipient of the Dean's Distinguished Teaching Award in 2001, the 2008 Service to Community Award from the University Advisory Board, a 2007 Our Town's Women of Distinction Award and a 1988 YWCA Tribute to Women Award for Performance and Leadership in Education.
