BOULDER, CO, March 31, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Roger Briggs has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A renowned educator and social entrepreneur, Mr. Briggs is celebrated for his impressive aptitude in physics education, team building, science writing, activism, stewardship, and rock climbing. He initially became interested in physics when he took freshman physics at the University of Colorado in 1969 from professor Albert Bartlett, a renowned physics teacher who also spoke passionately about the perils of exponential growth and overpopulation. Inspired by professor Bartlett to become a physics teacher, Mr. Briggs pursued an education at the University of Colorado, earning a Bachelor of Arts in physics and a Master of Arts in science education.
Mr. Briggs found widespread success and touched many lives over his thirty years with with Boulder Valley Schools, starting as a math and life science teacher at Southern Hills Junior High before accepting the position of physics teacher and Cross Country coach at Fairview High School in 1976. While at Fairview he created the two-year AP/IB physics course, the first of its kind in the world. During his eight years of coaching Cross Country and Track his teams won four State Championships.
Briggs is also a nationally known rock climber with some 55 years of experience who pioneered many free climbing first ascents near Boulder and on the Diamond of Longs Peak.
Since retiring from teaching in 2005, Mr. Briggs authored Journey to Civilization: The Science of How We Got Here in 2013, deftly explaining the journey from the Big Bang to human civilization. He also founded the Boulder Climbing Community in 2010, a non-profit organization whose mission is the stewardship of the heavily used climbing areas near Boulder. He served as its Director until 2018. From 2014 to 2018 he was a scholar in residence and programming facilitator at the Highland City Club. Mr. Briggs is currently working on a new book, tentatively titled Emerging World, that explores evolution and the future of humanity (he is an optimist).
