Dr. Moad is renowned as a research scientist with more than four decades of innovation at the forefront of the polymer industry. He pursued an education at the University of Adelaide, earning a Bachelor of Science in organic chemistry in 1973, a first-class Honors Bachelor of Science in 1974, and a Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry in 1977. Dr. Moad subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Pennsylvania State University from 1977 to 1979.
From 1979 unto the present time Dr. Moad has flourished in various capacities within CSIRO. Commencing as a postdoctoral research fellow, he escalated through the organization as a research scientist, a senior research scientist, a principal research scientist, a senior principal research scientist (1993-1999), a chief research scientist (1999-2015) and is currently a CSIRO fellow and leader of four research projects ranging from fundamental polymer chemistry to applied materials for application in such as biomedicine, nanoelectronics and industrial self-cleaning coatings.
Dr. Moad is (co)inventor on 35 patents and (co)author of more than 220 papers in his fields of polymer engineering and polymer chemistry. These papers have been cited a remarkable 24000 times (WOS). In 2014 he was awarded a Thomson-Reuters (Clavariate Analytics) Citation Laureate and in 2015 he appeared on their Highly Cited researcher list.
Dr. Moad has also been active as an adjunct professor at the University of New England (2014-2019) and Monash University since 2012. Dr Moad was awarded an honorary professorship at the Beijing University of Chemical Technology (China) and a fellowship of the Institute of Advanced Studies at Warwick University (UK) in 2015. He cosupervises students at these institutions. He is currently an associate member of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) Polymer Division and is the Divisions representative on the International Committee for Terminology, Nomenclature and Standards (ICTNS).
Dr. Moad has also found success as the organizer of several international polymer engineering conferences, most recently the 2018 Emerging Materials Summit in Hanoi, and an upcoming symposium at Pacifichem 2020. He is a member of the editorial board of the journals Polymers and Polymer International.
Dr. Moad was elected as a fellow of the Australian Academy of Science in 2012. In 2020 he was awarded the Academy's prestigious David Craig Medal for his outstanding record of continued achievement in chemistry.
