Dr. Parchment is renowned as a nurse and nurse educator with more than 35 years of excellence in her profession. While living in Jamaica, she initially pursued an education with nursing coursework through the University of the West Indies. Relocating to Miami, she earned an Associate of Arts and an Associate of Science at Miami-Dade Community College in 1982. She continued her studies at the University of Miami, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1984 and a Master of Science in Nursing in 1989. Licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Florida, Dr. Parchment eventually graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy from Florida International University in 2000.
From 1974 to 1979, Dr. Parchment began her career as an elementary school teacher at the Alpha Infant School in Kingston, Jamaica. She subsequently flourished as a nurse at South Miami Hospital from 1979 to 1995 and a clinical nurse specialist at Mount Sinai Medical Center of Miami from 1989 to 1995. Following these appointments, Dr. Parchment has been additionally active as a clinical associate professor at Florida International University.
Dr. Parchment excelled as a member of the United States Army Reserves Nurse Corps, serving in the 324th Combat Support Hospital in Miami from 1989 to 2003. Participating on the board of directors of the mental health committee at the Community Health Center of Miami, she is a frequent contributor to professional journals. Notably accepting a research grant from the Florida League of Nursing, Dr. Parchment is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the Jamaica Nurses Association of Florida, with which she has held a variety of administrative roles.
