Having accrued more than 50 years of excellence in his field, Mr. Taverna has earned distinction as a retired U.S. Marine Corps officer and financial services executive. He attended the University of Missouri, graduating in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts, and began his career with the U.S. Armed Forces as a means of paying for his education. Mr. Taverna returned to school in 1988, completing a Master of Business Administration in finance from National University.
In 1969, Mr. Taverna entered the U.S. Marine Corps as a commissioned second lieutenant. He served as a supply officer for Marine Air Support Squadron 3 and the Central Services Agency in Da Nang, Vietnam, from 1970 until 1971, and as a logistics and support officer at the Marine Headquarters Recruit Depot in Paris Island, South Carolina, between 1972 and 1975. Between 1975 and 1977 he was the logistics and support officer for Marine Barracks, Treasure Island, CA. Mr. Taverna earned distinction as the supply officer for the Marine Corps Air Control Squadron, Futenma, Japan, from 1977 to 1978, and a regimental supply officer for the First Marine regiment at Camp Pendleton, California, from 1978 until 1979.
Between 1980 and 1982, Mr. Taverna served as the brigade supply officer for the First Marine Brigade at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, and the executive officer of the First Maintenance Battalion at Camp Pendleton from 1982 to 1985. He continued as the assistant division supply officer for the First Marine Division from 1985 until 1988. Mr. Taverna retired from the U.S. Armed Forces in 1989.
Mr. Taverna began his career in financial services in 1991 as the president of the Freedom Financial Group, where he would remain through 2000. He excelled as a branch manager for WMA Securities Incorporated, from 1994 until 1997, and a senior field director for Premier Financial America between 1997 and 2000. Since 2000, Mr. Taverna has distinguished himself as the chief executive officer of Freedom Financial Solutions, Incorporated. In 2003, he began two additional ventures, Best Discount Benefits and Smart Consumer Group, where he remains president. Also since 2000, Mr. Taverna consulted for numerous start-up companies.
