Dr. Wetterberg is renowned as a retired forestry support program manager with more than 40 years of excellence in his field. Inspired by his youth camping and fishing with his parents, he enrolled in the Peace Corps in Chile, and followed his service by an extended period of hitchhiking to foreign national parks. Notably, he obtained a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in forestry from Colorado State University. Dr. Wetterberg subsequently earned a Master of Forest Resources and a Doctor of Philosophy in forestry at the University of Washington in 1974.
After beginning his career as a member of the Peace Corps in 1969, Dr. Wetterberg was responsible for the development of Chile's first national parks management plan, for which he was presented with a commendation from the Chilean government in 1970. He later completed the Inter-Departmental Seminar on Foreign Affairs at the Foreign Service Institute in Washington, D.C. in 1980, and continued developing national parks management plans for the United States and other countries. From 1993 until his retirement in 2003, Dr. Wetterberg found success as an international forestry support program manager for the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service.
Dr. Wetterberg has further flourished as an invited speaker to the XI World Forestry Congress, the International Seminar on Planning and Management of Wild Areas and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. Having authored numerous articles for publication in professional journals, he additionally contributed to a major Brazilian study on conservation. A member of the National Forestry Honor Society, Dr. Wetterberg has been honored for his contributions to his field with a number of accolades, including a United States Forest Service Award of Recognition and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Latin American Branch Chief in 1995.
