Penny Company Inc. and American Express International Banking Corporation, she later served as the vice president of Marine Midland Bank NA in New York City. Ultimately, Ms. O'Connell worked for nine years on behalf of Training Professionals Inc. in Philadelphia as its chairperson between 1988 and 1997.
An equally talented and successful artist, Ms. O'Connell has painted for numerous years. Her works have been included in solo shows at the Revsin Gallery and the Art A La Carte in Philadelphia and in various group shows at the Ariel Gallery in New York City, the Mari Galleries of Westchester Ltd. in New York, the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, the North Pennsylvania Arts Alliance Fall Show and the Gallery Alexy in Philadelphia. Additionally, Ms. O'Connell's paintings have been included in numerous private collections.
Ms. O'Connell received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology at Immaculata College in 1966, followed by a Master of Arts in psychology and counseling at Villanova University in 1967. She also studied the artwork of Jack Gates during the 1970s and later studied retablo art with Santeros Patricio and Shawna Chavez in Chimayo, New Mexico, between 2012 and 2020. Since concluding her academic efforts, Ms. O'Connell briefly taught as a lecturer at the University of Delaware. She has frequently spoken on behalf of the New York State Bankers Association and has authored numerous articles in professional journals as well.
Among her professional memberships, Ms. O'Connell is a former board director of the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley chapters of the American Society for Training and Development, for which she has likewise been a past president elect and president. She was also a member of the Philadelphia Human Resources Group and the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, where she chaired and served on several committees. Additionally, Ms. O'Connell is a Dame of Malta, a female member of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, a lay religious order of the Catholic church. A celebrated Marquis listee, she has been included in the 54th edition of Who's Who in the East, the 19th and 21st editions of Who's Who of American Women and the 24th through 28th editions of Who's Who in the East.
