Mr. Moritz became involved in his profession because his grandfather established the department and was the head of the department of mathematics at the University of Washington and remained there for 40 years. Mr. Moritz's uncle was a civil engineer who designed the locks at the Panama Canal, so, it just made sense to follow their lead.
Mr. Moritz attended the University of Minnesota, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 1950. Mr. Moritz pursued postgraduate coursework at Western Reserve University from 1956 until 1958. Eminently qualified in his field, he was a registered professional engineer in the states of Illinois, Minnesota and Ohio.
Between 1950 and 1972, Mr. Moritz found success as the vice president and general manager of the Waco Scaffold Shoring Company in Addison, IL. He served as the group vice president of Bliss and Laughlin Industries in Oak Brook from 1966 to 1983, rising to the position of the senior vice president in 1984 when the company rebranded to become AXIA Inc. Mr. Moritz further excelled as the executive vice president and chief operating officer of AXIA Inc. until 1989. He consulted for the Executive Service Corps of Chicago following his retirement in 1989.
Mr. Moritz served on the board of directors at Axia and Andamios Atlas S.A. A creative and innovative inventor, he holds multiple patents in his field. To remain aware of developments in the field, Mr. Moritz was the founder and a past president of the Scaffold and Shoring Institute, as well as a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
