After a long and distinguished career in medicine which spanned four decades, Dr. Burke retired as a private practice urologist in Oregon City in 2010. He formerly maintained involvement with several exemplary organizations, including the Urology Clinic in Portland, the Clackamas Urological Clinic in Oregon City, and the Denver Clinic. Dr. Burke was likewise the chairperson of the department of surgery at Willamette Falls Hospital in Oregon City, and provided his expertise as an assistant clinical professor of urology at the University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver.
After retiring, Dr. Burke contributed for two academic school years as a lecturer and associate professor of English at Ocean University of China in Qingdao between 2011 and 2012 and from 2013 to 2014. Following these appointments, he worked for two years as an area medical advisor for the Latter-Day Saints (LDS) Church in Sao Paulo, Brazil, between 2015 and 2017. Passionate about his community, Dr. Burke was active on the City of West Linn's planning commission in West Linn, Oregon, as the chairperson of the long-range planning committee and as a member of the budget committee for the West Linn School District. Notably, Dr. Burke served from 1970 to 1976 in the U.S. Army Reserves as a captain, while completing his internship and residency work. He remains active as a parishioner at his local LDS Church.

Dr. Burke received a Bachelor of Arts at Stanford University in 1964, followed by a Doctor of Medicine at the prestigious Yale University in 1970. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include a surgical internship and surgical residency at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City and a urological residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. Eminently qualified in his field, Dr. Burke is board certified by the American Board of Urology.
Among his industry-related organizations, Dr. Burke has maintained his professional alignment as a member of the western section of the American Urological Association, the Oregon Urological Society, the Northwest Urological Society, and the Clackamas County Medical Society. He is a past president of the Clackamas County Medical Society. He served as a delegate and former trustee of the Oregon Medical Association. Named as an Outstanding Foreign Teacher by the Shandong Province in Shandong, China, for 2012, Dr. Burke is also a celebrated Marquis listee who has been showcased in close to 30 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
