Accruing more than four decades of expertise as a secondary school mathematics educator in the state of Massachusetts, Dr. Hamond has retired from the public school system. As a schoolteacher, she specialized in such courses as algebra and statistics. For many years, Dr. Hamond also held several other pertinent roles as a program supervisor, curriculum coordinator, team advisor and head of the mathematics department. Additionally, she taught summer school for six years at the Governor Dummer Academy (now The Governor's Academy) in Byfield, Massachusetts, between 1993 and 1999.
Transitioning toward academia, Dr. Hamond joined the faculty of Western New England College and Merrimack College, where she garnered a laudable reputation teaching various mathematics courses. In the fall of 2019, she became a faculty member at Plymouth State University. Dr. Hamond currently teaches College Algebra and Statistics I.
In 2018, Dr. Hamond authored, "A Guide to Professional Learning for Secondary Mathematics Teachers," through IGI-Global. Providing other mathematics instructors with specifics as to how she was able to successfully incorporate a professional learning program in grades five through 12, she also provides a literature review of topics such as andragogy, brain research and self-efficacy, and addresses various other topics. That same year, Dr. Hamond earned distinction as a contributing author of the book "Handbook of Research on Student-Centered Strategies in Online Adult Learning Environments," also through IGI-Global.
In pursuing a formal education, Dr. Hamond attended Salem State College, where she was inducted into the honorable society of Phi Lambda Theta and received a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, in 1976. She later attained a Master of Science at Lowell University in 1983, a Master of Arts in education at Salem State University in 2007 and a Doctor of Arts in education at New England College in 2018. Dr. Hamond is certified as a secondary mathematics teacher in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, as a technology instructor and as a supervisor and director in Massachusetts. Additionally, she holds certifications in advanced studies through Harvard University since 2007 and in instructional technology and program evaluation through Boston University since 2008.
To remain aware of developments affecting her field, Dr. Hamond has maintained active membership within several pertinent organizations, including the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Mathematical Association of America, the National Education Association, the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the American Mathematics Society. She was recognized in the spring of 2009 with an Outstanding Educator Award from Salem State College. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Hamond has been featured in close to a dozen editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in the World.
