Dr. Kim Hayashi was named the Theodore Presser Music Education Scholar at the University of Washington

Driven to parlay his love of music to others, Dr. Hayashi is a Solo and Chamber Music Performer, and serves as a Preconcert Lecturer and as Director of Outreach for the Public Schools for the Arizona Friends of Chamber Music, as well as a Solo and Chamber Music performer. Additionally he teaches piano from his own private Studio, has worked as Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Fine Arts at Pima Community College, and serves as an Adjudicator for the Arizona State Music Teachers Association and the Arizona Study Program.
Over the years, Dr. Hayashi has gained valuable expertise in music and education in varying positions with Pima Community College; the Schools of Music at the University of Washington, University of Oregon and University of Arizona; the Tucson Music Teachers Association and the Nevada State Music Teachers Association. In a career filled with highlights, it is difficult to pick one that stands out among the rest. However, he is especially proud of the performances he does for Doctors Without Borders, for whom he has raised a great deal of money.
An expert in his field, Dr. Hayashi holds Bachelors of Music in Piano and Music Education, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Washington, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1978. Subsequently he earned a Master of Music from both the University of Oregon and the University of Arizona, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Arizona. In order to keep abreast of changes in the field, he retains professional alignment with the Tucson Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association. During his spare time he has given back as Chair of the James R. Anthony Honors Recital and the Tucson Music Teachers Association Merit Scholarship competitions, a piano donor for the Berger Performing Arts Center at the Arizona State School for the Deaf and Blind, and as a fundraiser for various local and national organizations.
For his professional achievements, Dr. Hayashi was named the Theodore Presser Music Education Scholar at the University of Washington, three time winner of the Ruth Lorraine Close Music Award at the University of Oregon, has been a Finalist for the Fulbright Fellowship, and won a Rotary Fellowship for Study Abroad, undertaken at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany. More recently, he was featured in two editions of Who's Who in America and was honored with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. In the coming years, Dr. Hayashi intends to experience the continued growth and success of his career.
