Growing up in a family of educators, Dr. White developed a passion for education from a young age. On her mother's side of the family, her grandfather worked as a high school principal and her grandmother was active as a teacher. Dr. White was drawn to the mission of a higher education through community colleges.
Subsequently, Dr. White initially received an Associate of Arts in education from Merritt College. She later obtained a Bachelor of Science in psychology and a Master of Science in counseling and psychology from California State University. Dr. White concluded her studies with a Doctor of Philosophy in education administration from the University of California Berkeley.
Following these accomplishments, Dr. White began her career as a psychology instructor and the director of staff development at Peralta Colleges. Moreover, she served in several positions at various community colleges throughout California, including Laney College, Evergreen Valley College and the City College of San Francisco. Before entering a well-deserved retirement, Dr. White excelled as a superintendent and the president of the College of Marin.
Most recently, Dr. White has been incredibly proud to have been inducted into the Marin County Women's Hall of Fame, as it is a valuable recognition of her career achievements. Although she is not motivated by accolades, she has been recognized as the Educator of the Year by Iota Phi Lamda. Dr. White has also accepted the ACCCA Harry J. Buttimer Award for Distinguished Administration from the Association of California Community College Administrators.
In addition to her exemplary efforts in academic administration, Dr. White has also been heavily involved in music. She was notably invited to join the board of the Marin Symphony, operating as the president for four years. In her spare time, she also enjoys reading, bicycling, singing, walking and meditating. Looking toward the future, Dr. White plans to continue consulting while working on institutional and strategic planning.
