Influenced by dedicated teachers in his own childhood, Mr. Meyer developed a deep passion for education and working with children while coming of age. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in communication and the theater arts and a Bachelor of Arts in social science education, both from the University of Northern Iowa. Mr. Meyer also holds a Master of Arts in history from the University of South Dakota.
After pursuing his education, Mr. Meyer taught for more than 10 years before he was met with an opportunity to venture into administration. He eventually chose to follow the administrative route in order to help more children receive the best education possible. For more than a decade, Mr. Meyer has provided his expertise as the superintendent of schools for the Jackson County Central School District.
Throughout his career, Mr. Meyer has been repeatedly recognized for his expertise within his area of expertise. Notably, he was named as the High School Social Studies Teacher of the Year in South Dakota and Minnesota. Moreover, Mr. Meyer was also a Thomas Jefferson Seminar fellow of the National Endowment of the Humanities and a fellow of the James Madison Memorial Foundation.
In addition to his primary professional endeavors, Mr. Meyer has also served as an advisor and director of extracurricular activities, as well as an adjunct professor of American history at Mount Marty College. He also contributes articles to local newspapers and volunteers with such charitable organizations as the American Red Cross, the Special Olympics, and his local community theater and church. In order to remain aware of developments in his field, Mr. Meyer maintains affiliation with the South Dakota Social Studies Council, the National Council of Social Studies, the National Council of History Education, the South Dakota State Historical Society, the National Trust for Historian Preservation, the Robert E. Lee Memorial Association and the Codington County Historical Society.
