Dr. Mizell is renowned as an educator and administrator celebrating more than 20 years of service to her students and staff. She initially earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Fort Lewis College. Dr. Mizell concluded her education at New Mexico State University, obtaining a Master of Arts in administration and a Doctor of Philosophy in teaching and instruction.
Prior to entering the field of education, Dr. Mizell worked for 80 hours each week in a corporate management position. When she became a parent, she found herself with a desire for a more flexible schedule and began transitioning to a career in education. She quickly excelled in this post, receiving a 1999 Student Teacher of the Year Award. Subsequently, Dr. Mizell completed her teacher licensure coursework through the University of New Mexico and accrued a reading specialist certificate from Arizona State University.
Since 2014, Dr. Mizell has excelled as the superintendent of the Bloomfield School District in Bloomfield, New Mexico. As a superintendent, she remains active as the chief executive officer of the aforementioned district, managing 450 employees across seven facilities. Dr. Mizell is responsible for the Bloomfield School District's turnaround efforts, including managing the adoption and implementation of curriculum, grant writing and financial management.
Dr. Mizell further flourishes in charitable initiatives, and supports her district's Back to School Bash as well as efforts that benefit the community at large. She is the recipient of a 2018 Reader's Choice Award and Leadership Awards from the SSA Association and the regional Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Mizell has maintained her involvement as a member of the New Mexico Superintendents Association, EAB and the New Mexico Cooperative Educational Services.
