Aligned with the University of Delaware in Newark for more than 35 years, Dr. Krishnan has garnered a laudable reputation as an associate professor in the department of applied economics and statistics. He currently teaches Introduction to Statistics to undergraduates from all the colleges at University of Delaware. He has previously taught Machinery Management, Engineering Economic Analysis, Thermodynamics, and Machine Design to agricultural engineering technology students in the department of agricultural engineering. Throughout the course of his tenure, he notably contributed for over a decade as the director of the operations research program between 1996 and 2007. During this time he developed a novel internship program for the operations research graduate students with the local credit card banks. He also taught Simulation Modeling and Analysis and conducted an operations research seminar series. Dr. Krishnan previously served at Oregon State University in Corvallis and worked with USDA-ARS where he held a research appointment for about five years.
Dr. Krishnan has been active as a consultant in his field for the American Agrotechnology Laboratory in Sacaton, Arizona, the Rodale Research Center in Kutztown, Pennsylvania, and Christiana Care in Newark, Delaware. He has also provided his expertise as a faculty advisor for the Indian Students Association in Newark and the Indian Graduate Students Association in Newark, Delaware. Some of Dr. Krishnan's research interests include statistical process control, sprayer application technology and nozzle wear analysis. For the past decade Dr. Krishnan's research has focused on patient safety and application of regression analysis and neural networks to data analysis. He holds a patent in his field for a method of obtaining purified seed fraction from a mixture of soil and seeds using magnetic fluid. As a result of his many years of study, Dr. Krishnan has contributed numerous articles to various peer reviewed journals, and he is a former associate editor for the Food Process Engineering Division of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers.
A dedicated civic advocate, Dr. Krishnan is a member of the Newark Lions. He has maintained involvement as the president since 2003, a role he served in twice before. He has also been a member of the board of directors since 1994, a capacity in which he previously excelled from 1990 to 1992. Remarkably, Dr. Krishnan found success in 1989 as a lion tamer.
An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology in his home country in Kharagpur, India, Dr. Krishnan received a Bachelor of Technology, with honors, in agricultural engineering in 1974. Subsequently transferring to the University of Hawaii, he attained a Master of Science in 1976. Dr. Krishnan concluded his academic efforts in 1979, having earned a Doctor of Philosophy in agricultural engineering from the University of Illinois. Eminently qualified, he likewise holds an engineer in training certification.
Dr. Krishnan has been affiliated with several major industry-related organizations. He is a member of the American Society for Quality and is a member and former secretary, vice-chairman and chairman of the agricultural pest control and fertilizer application committee of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers. Other memberships to Dr. Krishnan's credit include the American Statistical Association and the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences.
Earning distinction through his numerous accomplishments, Dr. Krishnan was a Hunter fellow at the University Illinois between 1977 and 1978. He also received a research grant from Oregon State University in 1981 and a teaching grant from the University of Delaware in 1987. Moreover, he was recognized with an Academic Advising Award for Excellence from the University of Delaware in 1997, was nominated twice for an Outstanding Graduate Advising and Mentoring Award from the university between 2001 and 2003 and was also nominated twice for a Teaching Award for Excellence in 1994 and 1997.
