Carolyn Frances Thompson Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

In honor of her achievements in the field, Carolyn Frances Thompson has been recognized with a Louis DiCarlo Award from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation in 1991.

Becoming a faculty member at Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA in 2007, Ms. Thompson has found success as an adjunct professor for Language Acquisition and the Communicative Arts, a graduate class she teaches, and as a clinical supervisor of graduate students as they complete their internship program. Likewise, she accepted the role of adjunct professor at Old Dominion University in 2009. Her expertise in the field includes 25 years as a speech and language pathologist with the Virginia Beach City Schools in Virginia Beach, where she provided speech language services to students with special needs and co-teamed in inclusive programs for grades 9-12 English. Additionally, Ms. Thompson held teaching appointments at the Department of Defense Dependent School in The Philippines, East Lyme Public Schools in Connecticut, Lawrence Township Public Schools in New Jersey and the Mount Carmel Guild Speech and Hearing Center in New Jersey between 1965 and 1978.

In providing her expertise to the field, Ms. Thompson has been aligned with the Virginia Department of Education as a trainer and coordinator of development language instruction since 1988. She also recently accepted a position as a Standards of Learning English tutor at Landstown High School within the Virginia Beach City Public Schools in 2017. To share her experiences with others, she has been involved as a writer and contributor of several books in her field. Among them, Ms. Thompson was a contributing author of "Tapestry of Knowledge" and the co-author of "Beach Ball Banter: Literacy in K12 Content."

In pursuing a formal education, Ms. Thompson attended the College of New Jersey where she achieved a Bachelor of Arts in speech-language pathology in 1964. Accepted to Columbia University, she subsequently acquired a Master of Arts in speech-language pathology in 1965. Eminently qualified in her field, Ms. Thompson is a certified speech and language pathologist.

Aligned with several industry related organizations, Ms. Thompson is a member of the National Education Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Virginia Education Association, the Virginia Reading Council and, among others, a member and past president of the Council of Exceptional Children. In honor of her achievements in the field, Ms. Thompson has been recognized with a Louis DiCarlo Award from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation in 1991, which recognizes an individual's significant accomplishments in the advancement of clinical service in audiology and speech-language pathology. She was also named Virginia State Speech/Language Pathologist in 1991 and Teacher of the Year by the Ocean Lake High School in Virginia Beach for the 1994-1995 academic school year. A celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Thompson has been included in the third edition of Who's Who in American Education and the 21st edition of Who's Who of American Women.
