Dr. Schlegel, a retired association CEO and management consultant and the owner and founder of Schlegel and Associates, enjoyed an exemplary career in his field, which has spanned over 45 years. Aligned with several significant organizations, he was notably the chief executive officer of the (now) American Pharmacists Association in Washington, D.C., and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy in Alexandria, Virginia. This followed his 8 years at the University of Southern California as chief pharmacist and teaching at the School of Pharmacy and serving as director of pharmacy admissions. He subsequently served as chief executive officer of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery before becoming a management consultant.
Consulting in nonprofit governance and leadership development throughout his career, Dr. Schlegel also provided his expertise as a presenter in his field and as a national delegate at the White House Conference on Aging in Washington. Additionally, he has contributed over 100 articles to various professional publications in the areas of pharmacy, health care and association management.
Dr. Schlegel is the co-founder and president and chief executive officer of the Alpha Psi Education & Scholarship Foundation at the University of the Pacific, Other significant accomplishments include being an elected fellow of the American Society of Association Executives, Life Member of the Phi Delta Chi Fraternity, and member of the Florida Society of Association Executives. In 2019 he was selected to serve on the board of the New College of Florida Scholars College Foundation.
An alumnus of the University of the Pacific, Dr. Schlegel received a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy in 1967. He shortly thereafter acquired a Doctor of Pharmacy in 1972 and a postdoctoral fellowship between 1972 and 1973 at the University of Southern California School of Medicine. Dr. Schlegel later completed a Master of Science in education at the University of Southern California in 1980.
Named a Distinguished Alumnus by the University of Southern California in the school of pharmacy in 1985 and by the Pacific School of Pharmacy in 1987, Dr. Schlegel also received an Honorary Doctor of Science in pharmacy from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1984 and Long Island University in 1985. Eminently qualified, he is a certified association executive. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Schlegel has been cited in over 40 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in Finance and Business and Who's Who in the World.
