Therese Taylor-Stinson is a third or fourth generation native of Washington DC. A retired Federal Senior Program Analyst in the area of Federal regulation, who remains on the roster of the Federal Interagency Shared Neutrals Program as a lead Equal Employment Opportunity mediator, Therese is also an ordained deacon and ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA), where she has nurtured her faith for the last 36 years. She has not only served in leadership positions in her local congregations, but has served in various committee roles in her mid-council body National Capital Presbytery, as well as Moderator from 2015-2018. Therese is a certified lay pastoral caregiver and a graduate of the Shalem Institute's Spiritual Guidance Program. She has been a practicing spiritual director for 15 years as of this writing. She is a member of the Shalem Society for Contemplative Leadership and was commissioned associate faculty for Shalem's Personal Spiritual Deepening Program in 2010. Therese is also a founder, incorporator, and the Managing Member of the Spiritual Directors of Color (SDC) Network, Ltd., in its twelfth year, as of this writing. Therese founded the Racial Awareness Festival in Washington DC, in 2015 with strong support from National Capital Presbytery and PCUSA's NEXT Church. She was recognized in 2018 as a Collaborative Bridge Builder by Grace and Race, Inc. With participating members of the SDC Network, she coedited and contributed to the groundbreaking anthology Embodied Spirits: Stories of Spiritual Directors of Color and solo edited and contributed to the award-winning anthology Ain't Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around: Stories of Contemplation and Justice. Therese is also a certified Emotional Emancipation Circle Facilitator by the Community Healing Network, Inc., and the Association of Black Psychologists. Her chapter on "Internal Liberation" is published in the SDC Network's newest release Kaleidoscope: Broadening the Pallet in the Art of Spiritual Direction, edited by Board Member Ineda P. Adesanya.
Therese is married to Bernard Stinson. They celebrate 41 years in September 2020. They have one daughter Nia Elise and two granddaughters. Therese lives her life as a contemplative, and enjoys life, the natural world, and the people and projects that are drawn to her as gifts.
