For his professional efforts in eliminating the stigma of mental illness, William Boyd was presented with the Standard of Excellence from NAMI Texas and the Volunteer of the Year Award from NAMI.
ABILENE, TX, May 27, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- William Boyd has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Inspired to eliminate the stigma behind mental illness, Mr. Boyd serves as the executive director of PHOENIX House, a mental health center dedicated to the recovery of men and women with mental illness by creating opportunities for members to live, work and learn while fostering their talents through a community of mutual support. In this capacity, he also channels his own unique experiences with schizoaffective disorder and bipolar disorder, as well as past experiences with drug addiction and alcoholism. As such, Mr. Boyd is intimately familiar with the obstacles that face those who have lived and suffered with those respective issues.
In addition to his work with PHOENIX House, Mr. Boyd provides his expertise in the field to others as a freelance blogger with BYL Publications. He has been additionally active as the founder and the executive director of the Abilene chapter of NAMI. Prior to obtaining his current positions, he gained valuable knowledge of the field as the hired executive director of the Moultrie/Colquitt County Peer Support, Wellness, and Respite Center. Moreover, Mr. Boyd has flourished as a member of the peer advisory councils for the Abilene Regional Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and NAMI Texas.
Certified as a peer specialist in Texas and Georgia, Mr. Boyd obtained a Bachelor of Theology from Evangel Christian University of America in the mid-1980s. He retains his professional alignment with Alpha Phi Alpha and the Forum of Distinguished Americans. Dedicated to his community, he also contributes to those in need as a presenter for the In Our Own Voice Program, the Highland Church of Christ, Gardeners of Grace and the Antioch Cathedral of Faith Church.
