He pursued an education at Seoul National University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in botany, cum laude, in 1990. Dr. Moon concluded his studies at Seoul National University, earning a Master of Science in biology in 1992 and a Doctor of Philosophy in biology in 1997.
From 1997 to 1999, Dr. Moon completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the department of life science at POSTECH in Pohang, South Korea. He later worked as a postdoctoral fellow in plant and microbial biology at the University of California Berkeley from 1999 to 2003. Dr. Moon formally began his career with Pusan National University in 2003 as an assistant professor of molecular biology, advancing to the post of the dean of the department of molecular biology from 2005 to 2007.
Dr. Moon further flourished as an associate professor of molecular biology at Pusan National University in 2007, and participated on the aforementioned university's faculty council committee from 2009 to 2013. Since 2012, he has excelled as a professor at the College of Natural Sciences at Pusan University. He has contributed his wealth of knowledge to dozens of papers and journal articles, including "Arabidopsis AtNAP Functions as a Negative Regulator Via Repression of AREB1 in Salt Stress Response" in 2017 and "Enhanced Resistance of PsbS-Deficient Rice (Oryza sativa L.) to Fungal and Bacterial Pathogens" in 2016. Dr. Moon's work has been notably included in publications including the Journal of Plant Biology, Plant Cell Reports and the Journal of Photoscience, and he is a patentee in his field.
Among many other accolades, Dr. Moon has accepted a multitude of Best Poster Awards, including two from the Botanical Society of Korea, four from the Korean Society of Life Science and one from the Korea Society of Photoscience. He also served on the moderation committee for the 2008 Fifth Junior Science Olympiad. Dr. Moon remains active as a member of the Botanical Society of Korea, the American Society of Plant Biologists and the Korean Society of Life Science.
