Mr. White has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the field of arts and entertainment

WATERFORD, CT, June 10, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present George C. White with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. White celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Introduced to the arts and entertainment industry in 1955 while working as a stage manager for Imperial Japanese Azumakabuki Company, Mr. White later found success as an administrative vice president for both for Score Productions and Paramount Pictures. In 1965, he established the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center in Waterford as the founder and president. Named in honor of Eugene O'Neill, four-time Pulitzer Prize-winner and America's only playwright to win the Nobel Prize in literature, the O'Neill is the country's preeminent organization dedicated to the development of new works and new voices for the stage. A home to more than 1,000 new works for the stage, it is also home to thousands more emerging artists, writers, directors, puppeteers, singers, students and audiences who take their initial forays in exploring, revising and understanding their work and the potential of the theater they help create. After 35-years in his role, Mr. White stepped down from his role in 2000 and has since provided his expertise in multiple administrative roles as the founding president of the Sundance Institute, the founding chairman of the Florence Academy of Art and as the executive director of the Johnny Mercer Foundation.

Throughout the course of his illustrious career, Mr. White made appearances in the off-Broadway production of "John Brown's Body" and was an actor in the television series "Citizen Solider." He also excelled as a director both locally and internationally in such countries as China and Russia and continues to direct plays at such venues as the Actors Theater, the Guthrie Theater, the Hartman Theater, the Annenberg Center and the Hedgerow Theater. In academia, Mr. White taught at Wager College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, served the acting director of the department of art and art history at Hunter College, and, among other teaching appointments, co-chaired the theater management program in the school of drama at his alma mater, Yale University. He continues to lecture internationally on behalf of the U.S. Information Agency.

A committed community advocate, Mr. White has been aligned with numerous organizations, including as a trustee for the National Theatre Conference since 1973 and as a former trustee of the Connecticut Education Telecommunications Corporation. He has maintained activity on numerous local committees and boards as well, including with the National Arts Council, the Connecticut Commission on the Arts, the Camargo Foundation, the Hartford Conservatory and the Boston Conservatory. Most notably, however, Mr. White has been aligned with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for over a decade, serving as a former division commander and flotilla commander, and a district captain since 2011.

Originally studying at the Université Paris-Sorbonne in 1956, Mr. White shortly thereafter attained a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Fine Arts in drama at Yale University in 1957 and 1961, respectively, while simultaneously studying at the Shakespeare Institute in 1959. He received an honorary Doctor of Arts from Connecticut College in 1994. Due to his many accomplishments, Mr. White was named as a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and an honorary member of the Chinese Theatre Association, as well as the College of Fellows of the American Theatre.

In 2013, Mr. White was inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame and in 2016 received a Russian American Friendship Award. Recognized for his achievements, he received the Royal Swedish Order of the Polar Star from King Carl Gustaf and the French Republic's Chevalier des Artes et des Lettres. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. White has been featured in over 55 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Entertainment, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World.
