Luis F. Diaz Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

He was one of the authors of the fourth IPCC Evaluation Report, Working Group III: Mitigation of Climate Change, Chapter 10: Waste Management. This IPCC effort was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2007.

Dr. Diaz, an expert in all aspects of solid waste management, has served as the president of CalRecovery, Inc. since 1975. A consulting and engineering firm which specializes in solid waste and resource management, it was established for the specific purposes of designing and implementing systems and programs to minimize quantities of wastes being disposed and maximizing utilization of discarded materials. Dr. Diaz's proficiencies include decades of experience in the evaluation of existing conditions and programs, the preparation of solid and hazardous waste management plans and guidelines and the preparation of environmental action plans for multiple public and private entities in the U.S. and other countries. His knowledge of waste processing technologies notably includes recycling, composting, anaerobic digestion, renewable energy, and mechanical processing. Dr. Diaz has worked in more than 40 countries, paying particular interest on industrially developing countries.

In addition to his long and distinguished career with CalRecovery, Inc., Dr. Diaz has provided his expertise as a research engineer and instructor at the University of California and later as an instructor at San Francisco State University. He has given lectures and classes at several universities in North America, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Australia, Asia, and Europe. He has served throughout his career as a consultant to such organizations as the World Health Organization, and the UN Environment Programme, the United Nations Development Programme, and the World Bank. Widely published, Dr. Diaz has also contributed more than 400 articles to various professional journals. He authored more than 12 books including "Organic Wastes for Fuel and Fertilizer in Developing Countries" in 1980, "Resource Recovery from Municipal Solid Wastes" in 1982 and "Compost Science and Technology" in 2007.

Dr. Diaz enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve between 1971 and 1976. While serving his country, he notably received a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering at San Jose State University in 1972, after which he earned a Master of Science in mechanical engineering and a Doctor of Philosophy in environmental engineering at the University of California Berkeley in 1973 and 1976, respectively. Likewise, Dr. Diaz received an honorary Doctor of Engineering from the Bauhaus University in Weimar, Germany.

In 1982, Dr. Diaz was the recipient of an Engineering Award of Distinction from San Jose State University. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been included in the 21st edition of Who's Who in the West and the second through fourth editions of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America. A recognized member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Society of Agricultural Engineering and Soil Conservation Society of America, Dr. Diaz is also a member of the honorable society of Sigma Xi.

Dr. Diaz was one of the authors of the fourth IPCC Evaluation Report, Working Group III: Mitigation of Climate Change, Chapter 10: Waste Management. This IPCC effort was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2007. The award was shared with Mr. Al Gore, 45th Vice President of the United States.
