Mr. Greaves, president of the John J. Byrne Community Center in Uniondale, New York, has been serving the community for more than 30 years, initially as a director and treasurer, before assuming his current position. In his role, he has raised funds with the explicit goal of expanding the existing infrastructure and establishing environmentally conscientious technology. He attributes his success to his passion, steadfast dedication, and keen ability to persevere. Having been established in 1986, the non-profit Center provides various social, health, recreational, cultural, and educational opportunities for community members of all ages.
Blessed to be mentored and surrounded by so many outstanding professionals at the pinnacle of their careers, Mr. Greaves worked in various middle-to-senior-level positions throughout his career. Between 1994 and 2015, Mr. Greaves found success in finance on Wall Street, performing Operations Risk Management for ING Financial Services. He also held accounting positions as an assistant controller for James M. Stuart and J.T. Moran and Company. His accounting expertise led to his volunteer opportunity at the John J. Byrne Community Center (Uniondale Neighborhood Center, Inc.) when he accepted a position as bookkeeper.
A dedicated civic advocate, Mr. Greaves is involved as a member of the Greater Uniondale Community Area Action Coalition. Comprised of members from 26 different local organizations, it seeks to build a better community in a variety of ways. A native of Trinidad, Mr. Greaves later studied computer programming at the Control Data Institute.
Mr. Greaves has been recognized with citations for his work by Nassau County Legislator Patrick Williams and Kevan Abrahams, Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi, and Deputy Speaker of the New York State Assembly Earlene Hooper, among others. Other recognitions include -- Outstanding Advocate for Children and Youth, recognition by the Uniondale Community Council for his community service, and being named as a trustee for the organization. The board of directors awarded him a special commendation for his exemplary leadership as president. Outside of his vocational circles, Mr. Greaves enjoys such diversions as running, gardening, bicycling, and using computer technology.
