Backed by decades of expertise in various aspects of medicine, Dr. Bobik serves as a professor in the departments of immunology and medicine at Monash University. Previously, he gained valuable expertise as a senior principal research fellow with the Baker IDI Heart & Diabetes Institute and a senior principal research scientist for Alfred Hospital, for which he also worked as the associate director of the Alfred Baker Medical Unit. In pursuit of his career, Dr. Bobik earned a Doctor of Pharmacy from Monash University in 1966. The following year, he became a certified pharmacist through the Victorian Pharmacy Board. Years later, he returned to academia at the University of Sydney, obtaining a Master of Science in 1971 and an MD/PhD in pharmacy in 1974. Dr. Bobik remains knowledgeable of changes in the field due to his alignment with the Australian Vascular Biology Society, the American Heart Association, with which he is a fellow, and the Russian Academy of Sciences.
With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, Dr. Bobik has contributed to more than 200 publications, including "Immune Mechanisms in Vascular Disease and Stroke," "Striatin-Dependent Membrane Estrogen Receptor Signaling and Vasoprotection by Estrogens," "Circulating microparticles. Markers or participants in carotid artery remodeling?" and "Secretory phospholipase A2 type IIA: A regulator of immune function in atherosclerosis?" In light of his outstanding work, he has been honored many times, earning the Perry Foundation Research Award from the National Heart Foundation of Australia in 1998, research fellowships from the National Health & Medical Research Council of Australia since 2006, the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and features in such publications as Who's Who in the World. Looking forward, Dr. Bobik aims to consult for the pharmaceutical industry, work with PhD candidates and plan for his eventual retirement.
