WASHINGTON STATE, July 03, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Roxanne Thayer has been inducted into the Marquis' "Who's Who" as a subject of biographical record. Inclusion in which is limited to individuals who possess professional integrity, demonstrate outstanding achievement in their respective fields, and have made innumerable contributions to society as a whole.
As in all Marquis' "Who's Who" Biographical Volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Thayer's professional journey began before she completed her B.A. degree, when she was elected to a Board of Education and championed a parent involved alternative program, in the public-school system. Following that, she completed her B.A. and Master's degrees. Her passion for issues of social justice led her to undertake a documentary film project, which placed her in partnership with the University of Washington and the Puyallup Indian Nation, along with middle and high school students. This led her to serve on the King County Landmarks and Heritage Commission and the 4Culture Board of King County, WA. She has been identified for appointment to the King County's Woman's Advisory Board.
While studying for a Bachelor of Arts at the Evergreen State College, Dr. Thayer developed a field of study on "Education in the Developing World". As a direct result of her findings, she created a research unit on "U.S./Latin American Relations". Through this research, she became fascinated by the history of and developing education practices in Cuba. Dr. Thayer obtained a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Seattle University, School Administrator and Program Administrator endorsements from Western Washington University and a Doctor of Education, from the University of Washington, in "Education Leadership and Policy Studies, with a Focus on Issues of Social Justice". Dr. Thayer was granted a Fulbright Scholarship to work and study education in Mendoza, Argentina. Later she participated in a United Nations' Conference on Foreign Military Bases in Guantanamo, Cuba.
Dr. Thayer's first classroom of students, in inner-city Seattle; her daughters; and Latin American education methods shaped her professional practice. The focus of this practice includes: authenticity; compassion; and humanity— building communities, which have a powerful impact on students: adult and youth. She inspires students to design field research; many won primary research awards at "National History Day" competitions. She presents "Lesson Study Cycles" workshops to conferences, in school districts; and, as an adjunct professor, through Seattle Pacific University. These workshops present field research techniques to increase teacher agency and ownership.
As a testament to Dr. Thayer's skills as an educator and education administrator, following are a few of the honors she's earned: "Distinguished Administrator of the Year", "Doors of Opportunity" (teaching award), the "Washington State Historic Officers' Award for Outstanding Achievement in Public Education", and the National Archives "Teacher of the Year Award". Appointment as Education Director for a regional NAACP Organization.
Throughout her career, Dr. Thayer has attributed her professional success to her belief in others, in humanity, and the power of compassion and community.
