Having accrued more than 15 years of creative leadership at both the school and district level, Dr. Thomson has garnered a laudable reputation as an educational administrator. Initially planning a career in veterinary medicine, he found his calling in education after a transformative experience, wherein he taught a child to swim while working at a youth camp. Dr. Thomson holds a Bachelor of Science in biology and secondary education, and earned a Master of Education in educational leadership at Framingham State College in 2000.
In 2004, Dr. Thomson began his administrative career as the principal for Mansfield Public Schools, where he excelled until 2007, departing to become a principal for Bridgewater Raynham School District. Likewise, he has been active in professional organizations since his early career, finding success on the executive board of the Massachusetts Secondary School Administrators Association in 2006, as the president of the organization in 2009, and sat on the board of directors of the National Association of Secondary Principals from 2010 until 2015. In 2013, Dr. Thomson completed a Doctor of Education in educational leadership at Northeastern University, presenting a thesis on teacher perceptions and effectiveness of new teacher review systems.
Dr. Thomson was an Assistant Superintendent for the Blackstone Millville Regional School District during the 2014 to 2017 academic year. In July of 2017, he was appointed as the superintendent of Norwood Public Schools, serving more than 3500 students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Moreover, Dr. Thomson earned distinction as an adjunct professor at American International College and Worcester State University from 2012 until 2014, bringing his educational advocacy and constant drive for improvement to the next generation of educators.
Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Thomson's service to his students, teachers, and community has been extensively recognized, and he was named as the 2010 Massachusetts Principal of the Year. He is a member of the National Association of School Superintendents, the Mayflower Council, where he is the executive vice president, and is an Eagle Scout of the Boy Scouts of America, who have presented him with a Silver Beaver and other awards for his decades of involvement. Dr. Thomson attributes his career success to his ability to unify people to achieve common goals, and aspires to continue his work in advancing the educational profession for years to come.
