Mr. Wahl subsequently attended Purdue University, graduating in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts in aeronautical engineering with the intention to design rocket engines.
Mr. Wahl began his career with United Technologies and Rockwell International for several years, honing his industry skills before settling into the development department at Boeing, in which he would thrive for the majority of his career. For the next five decades, he cultivated a reputation for excellence in numerous levels of the design engineering process, from structural analysis and systems design to project management and program support. In a career filled with innovation, Mr. Wahl is most proud of his work on the initial design and testing of a high-energy laser regenerative engine cooling system that would set the industry standard design format for similar devices.
In recognition of his track record of design excellence, Mr. Wahl was nominated for an Engineer of the Year award for two consecutive years. He also holds four patents with team colleagues. Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to sharing his experiences with students in engineering and pre-engineering programs, and remains enthusiastic about encouraging the next generation of aerospace professionals. Mr. Wahl attributes his success to his sustained passion for the work that he conducts, and could come out of retirement within the next five years to pursue further mentoring opportunities or industry consulting.
